De Mol: Van Massa naar Deeltjes

De mol is de eenheid voor hoeveelheid stof (symbool: n). Dit concept lijkt ingewikkeld, maar het is eigenlijk gewoon een manier om heel grote aantallen deeltjes te tellen.

Eén mol bevat altijd 6,02 × 10²³ deeltjes - dit noemen we het getal van Avogadro NAN_A. Dat is een onvoorstelbaar groot getal, maar het maakt het mogelijk om met atomen en moleculen te rekenen alsof het gewone getallen zijn.

De molaire massa (M) geeft aan hoeveel gram één mol van een stof weegt. Het handige is dat de molaire massa in g/mol precies hetzelfde getal is als de molecuulmassa in u atomairemassaeenheidatomaire massa-eenheid.

💡 Onthoud: massa (g) ÷ molaire massa g/molg/mol = aantal mol

Voor water (H₂O) bereken je de molaire massa zo: 2 × 1,008 (waterstof) + 1 × 16,00 (zuurstof) = 18,016 g/mol. Met 300 gram water krijg je dus 300 ÷ 18,016 = 16,65 mol, wat overeenkomt met 1,0 × 10²⁵ watermoleculen!
