La energía cinética es la energía que tiene un objeto debido a su movimiento. Se calcula con la fórmula Ec = (m·V²)/2, donde m es la masa en kilogramos y V es la velocidad en metros por segundo. El resultado se expresa en Julios (J), que equivale a kg·m²/s².

La energía potencial se relaciona con la posición de un objeto en un campo gravitatorio. Su fórmula es Ep = m·g·h, donde m es la masa, g es la aceleración gravitatoria 9,8m/s29,8 m/s² y h es la altura. Esta energía también se mide en Julios.

De estas fórmulas podemos despejar diferentes variables. Por ejemplo, para encontrar la masa a partir de la energía cinética usamos m = (2·Ec)/V², mientras que para la velocidad aplicamos V = √2Ec/m2·Ec/m. En el caso de la energía potencial, podemos calcular la altura con h = Ep/(m·g).
