Organología y clasificación de instrumentos musicales

La organología estudia los instrumentos musicales en varios aspectos: su historia, función social, diseño, construcción y cómo se tocan. Victor Charles creó un sistema para clasificarlos que sigue siendo útil hasta hoy.

Los instrumentos se dividen en cuatro grandes familias según cómo producen su sonido. Los membranófonos (como tambores, timbales y bombos) generan sonido cuando una membrana tensa vibra. Los idiófonos producen sonido cuando el propio instrumento vibra, y pueden ser percutidos (triángulo, platillos), soplados (flauta de millo), de entrechoque (castañuelas, claves) o raspados (güiro).

Los aerófonos funcionan cuando el aire vibra dentro de ellos. Incluyen instrumentos de soplo directo como flautas, clarinetes y saxofones; y de soplo mecánico como el acordeón. Por último, los cordófonos generan sonido mediante cuerdas que pueden ser frotadas (violín, contrabajo), pulsadas (guitarra, tiple) o percutidas (piano).

💡 ¿Sabías que? Los instrumentos pueden tener afinación determinada (como el xilófono) o indeterminada. Esto significa que algunos producen notas musicales precisas mientras que otros generan sonidos sin altura tonal específica.
