¿Qué es la Mediana en Datos Agrupados?

La mediana es simplemente el dato que está justo en el medio de todos tus valores cuando los ordenas de menor a mayor. En datos agrupados, usamos una fórmula especial: Li + (n/2Fi1)/fi(n/2 - Fi-1)/fi × Ai.

Para encontrar la mediana, primero necesitas calcular n/2 (donde n es el total de datos). Luego buscas en qué intervalo se encuentra este valor usando la frecuencia acumulada.

Existen dos casos importantes que debes conocer. En el Caso 1, cuando n/2 coincide exactamente con una frecuencia acumulada, la mediana será el extremo superior de ese intervalo. En el Caso 2, cuando n/2 está entre dos frecuencias acumuladas, la mediana se ubicará dentro del intervalo superior.

💡 Tip clave: La mediana siempre divide tu conjunto de datos exactamente por la mitad.

Ejemplo Práctico con Tabla de Frecuencias

Imagina que tienes 20 datos organizados en intervalos. Para encontrar la mediana, primero calculas n/2 = 20/2 = 10.

Observando la tabla, ves que la frecuencia acumulada de 9 está en el intervalo [4.0-4.5) y la de 14 está en [4.5-5.0). Como 10 está entre estos valores, usamos el Caso 2.

La mediana estará en el intervalo [4.5-5.0). Aplicando la fórmula con Li = 4.5 (límite inferior), obtienes el valor exacto de la mediana dentro de ese intervalo.

💡 Recuerda: Siempre identifica primero en qué intervalo cae tu n/2 antes de aplicar la fórmula.
