Los Participios: Verbos Disfrazados de Adjetivos

¿Te imaginas poder decir "el chico que estudia" en una sola palabra? Eso es exactamente lo que hacen los participios latinos. Son adjetivos verbales que combinan las características de los verbos (expresan acciones) con las de los adjetivos (concuerdan y se declinan).

Los participios se forman a partir de diferentes temas verbales y tienen voz activa y pasiva. En activa tenemos el participio de presente amans="amando"amans = "amando" y el de futuro amaturus="elquevaaamar"amaturus = "el que va a amar". En pasiva está el de perfecto amatus="amado"amatus = "amado" y otro de futuro amandus="elquedebeseramado"amandus = "el que debe ser amado".

El participio de presente se forma con el tema de presente + -ns, -ntis. Se declina como un adjetivo mixto de tercera declinación, así que cuidado con esas terminaciones especiales del ablativo singular e/i-e/-i y los plurales neutros ia-ia.

El participio de perfecto usa la raíz del supino + -us, -a, -um. Este es más fácil porque se declina como un adjetivo normal de primera clase. Puedes traducirlo como "amado/a" o "habiendo sido amado/a".

Truco: Piensa en los participios como "atajos elegantes" - en lugar de usar una oración de relativo larga, los romanos comprimían la idea en una sola palabra que concordaba perfectamente.
