Elektrokimyasal Piller ve Çalışma Prensipleri

Elektrokimyasal piller, kimyasal enerjiyi elektrik enerjisine çeviren istemli ve ekzotermik tepkimelere dayalı düzeneklerdir. Pil tepkimelerinde açığa çıkan enerji, kullanılan metallerin aktiflik farkından kaynaklanır.

Pilin iki önemli bileşeni vardır: anot ve katot. Anotta yükseltgenme gerçekleşir örneğin: $Zn \rightarrow Zn^{+2} + 2e^-$. Bu süreçte anot çubuğu aşınır ve çözeltideki metal iyon derişimi artar. Tuz köprüsünden anot hücresine anyonlar gelmeye çalışır.

Katotta ise indirgenme gerçekleşir örneğin: $Cu^{+2} + 2e^- \rightarrow Cu$. Katot çubuğun kütlesi zamanla artar ve çözeltideki metal iyon derişimi azalır. Tuz köprüsünden katot hücresine katyonlar gelmeye çalışır.

Dikkat! Zn-Cu pilinde E°pil=1,1VE°_{pil}=1,1V değerindedir ve bu değer pilin çalışacağını gösterir. Pil notasyonu Zn(k)/Zn+2(aq)//Cu+2(aq)/Cu(k)Zn(k)/Zn^{+2}(aq)//Cu^{+2}(aq)/Cu(k) şeklinde yazılır ve bu sıralama değişmez.

Örnek bir pil tepkimesinde:
