Past Perfect: Quando il passato ha un "prima" e un "dopo"
Il past perfect simple è il tuo migliore amico quando devi raccontare due azioni passate in sequenza. Usalo per l'azione che è successa prima rispetto a un altro momento nel passato.
Pensa a questo esempio: "She had won a medal before 2014" - la vittoria della medaglia è avvenuta prima del 2014. È come dire "prima che accadesse X, era già successo Y".
Il past perfect continuous funziona allo stesso modo, ma mette l'accento sulla durata dell'azione. "They had been driving for hours when they had an accident" - stavano guidando da ore (azione lunga) quando è successo l'incidente.
💡 Trucco: Se nella frase c'è "before", "after" o "when", probabilmente ti serve il past perfect!

Past Simple e Continuous: Il passato che conosci meglio
Il past simple è il tempo del passato più diretto - azioni finite e concluse. "He studied Law at university" - punto, finito, archiviato. Usalo per eventi specifici, azioni ripetute nel passato o per raccontare una storia in sequenza.
Il past continuous descrive azioni in corso nel passato. È perfetto quando vuoi dire cosa stava succedendo in un momento specifico: "I was playing video games at 4 pm yesterday".
La combo vincente? Past continuous + past simple per azioni interrotte: "While I was playing video games, the phone rang". L'azione lunga (playing) viene interrotta da quella breve (phone rang).
💡 Trucco: Se puoi dire "stavo facendo", usa il past continuous!

Present Perfect: Il ponte tra passato e presente
Il present perfect simple è magico perché collega passato e presente. Usalo quando il quando esatto non importa, ma il risultato sì. "My sister has broken my phone" - non importa quando, importa che ora il telefono è rotto!
Funziona anche per azioni iniziate nel passato che continuano ancora, soprattutto con for/since: "He has been on holiday for two weeks".
Il present perfect continuous fa la stessa cosa ma enfatizza l'azione invece del risultato. "Alice is exhausted. She has been cleaning the floor" - si vede che ha pulito perché è stanca!
💡 Trucco: Con "today", "this month", "this year" usa sempre il present perfect!
