¿Qué es el Zero Conditional?
El zero conditional es una estructura que utilizamos para hablar sobre verdades generales o situaciones que son reales y posibles. Es perfecta para expresar cosas que siempre suceden bajo ciertas condiciones, como las leyes científicas o conocimientos prácticos del día a día.
Cuando hablamos de verdades generales, usamos el present simple en ambas partes de la oración. Por ejemplo: "If you mix yellow and blue, you get green" (Si mezclas amarillo y azul, obtienes verde). Otros ejemplos son: "If you don't eat lunch, you feel weak" (Si no almuerzas, te sientes débil) o "If you leave ice in the sun, it melts" (Si dejas hielo al sol, se derrite).
También usamos esta estructura para situaciones cotidianas como: "If I drink coffee at night, it takes me a long time to fall asleep" (Si tomo café por la noche, me toma mucho tiempo conciliar el sueño) o "If you keep milk in the fridge, it lasts longer" (Si guardas la leche en la nevera, dura más tiempo).

Usos del Zero Conditional
El zero conditional es muy útil para dar instrucciones o advertencias. Por ejemplo: "If the phone rings, don't answer" (Si el teléfono suena, no contestes) o "If you have legal problems, visit a lawyer" (Si tienes problemas legales, visita a un abogado). Con estas frases podemos guiar a alguien sobre qué hacer en ciertas situaciones.
También es ideal para hablar sobre leyes científicas que nunca cambian. Siempre que se cumple una condición específica, ocurre el mismo resultado. Por ejemplo: "If you put an ice cube in the sun, it melts" (Si pones un cubo de hielo al sol, se derrite) o "If it rains, plants grow" (Si llueve, las plantas crecen).
La estructura del zero conditional es sencilla: "If + Sujeto + Presente Simple, Sujeto + Presente Simple". Para formar negaciones usamos "don't/doesn't + verbo". También puedes invertir el orden: "Plants grow if it rains" (Las plantas crecen si llueve), lo que muestra la flexibilidad de esta estructura.
