Densidad vs Viscosidad: ¿Cuál es la diferencia?

La densidad es la relación entre la masa y el volumen de una sustancia, es decir, qué tanta materia cabe en un espacio determinado. Se representa con la letra griega ρ (rho) y se mide en kg/m³.

La viscosidad, por otro lado, es la resistencia que tiene un fluido para moverse o fluir. Piensa en la diferencia entre verter agua y verter miel: el agua fluye rápido (baja viscosidad) mientras que la miel fluye lento (alta viscosidad).

Ejemplo práctico con mercurio: Si tenemos 100g de mercurio y sabemos que su densidad es 13.600 kg/m³, podemos calcular qué volumen ocupa. Convirtiendo 100g a 0,1 kg y aplicando la fórmula V = masa/densidad, obtenemos que ocupa 7 × 10⁻⁵ m³.

Ejemplo con una esfera: Una esfera de radio 2m y masa 3 kg tiene un volumen de 33,51 m³ usandoV=4/3πr3usando V = 4/3 πr³. Su densidad sería 3 kg ÷ 33,51 m³ = 0,089 kg/m³, lo que significa que flotaría en el agua.

💡 Tip clave: La densidad te dice qué tan "apretada" está la materia, mientras que la viscosidad te dice qué tan "pegajosa" o resistente al movimiento es una sustancia.
