Periyodik Tablonun Gelişimi ve Yapısı

Periyodik tablonun hikayesi Dimitri Mendeleyev ile başlar. Bu Rus bilim insanı elementleri atom ağırlıklarına göre sıralayarak ilk periyodik tabloyu oluşturdu. Ancak bu sadece başlangıçtı!

Henry Moseley daha sonra büyük bir keşif yaptı. Elementlerin özelliklerinin aslında atom numarasına (yani proton sayısına) bağlı olduğunu fark etti. Bu yüzden modern periyodik tabloda elementler artan atom numaralarına göre sıralanır.

Modern periyodik sistem 7 yatay sıra (periyot) ve 18 dikey sütundan (grup) oluşur. A gruplarına ana grup, B gruplarına yan grup denir. B grubu elementleri aynı zamanda geçiş metalleri olarak da bilinir.

Elektron dizilimi ile elementin yerini bulmak çok kolay. Katman sayısı = periyot numarası, son katmandaki elektron sayısı = grup numarası (A grupları için). Mesela Li (2,1) → 2. periyot, 1A grubu!
