Dilatación Térmica: Cuando el Calor Cambia Todo

Imagínate que tu celular se vuelve más grande cada vez que lo usas mucho y se calienta. Eso es básicamente lo que pasa con todos los materiales: cuando sube la temperatura, las dimensiones aumentan (se dilatan), y cuando baja, se contraen.

La dilatación lineal es cuando un objeto cambia principalmente en una dirección, como un cable que se alarga. La fórmula es súper directa: ΔL = α · L₀ · ΔT. Aquí, α es el coeficiente de dilatación lineal, que es como la "personalidad" de cada material para expandirse.

Dato curioso: Los puentes tienen juntas de dilatación para que no se partan cuando cambia la temperatura. ¡La ingeniería pensando en todo!

Para superficies usamos dilatación superficial (β = 2α), y para volúmenes, dilatación volumétrica (γ = 3α). Es como si cada dimensión extra multiplicara el efecto.

Pero el agua es rebelde y tiene su dilatación irregular: entre 0°C y 4°C hace lo contrario (se contrae al calentarse), y después de los 4°C se comporta normal. Por eso el hielo flota y los peces sobreviven en invierno.
