La configurazione elettronica funziona come l'indirizzo di casa degli elettroni - ogni elettrone ha il suo posto specifico negli orbitali. Pensa agli orbitali come a degli appartamenti di diverse dimensioni: gli orbitali s ospitano 2 elettroni, i p ne ospitano 6, i d ben 10, e gli f addirittura 14!

Gli elettroni seguono delle regole precise quando "si trasferiscono" negli orbitali. Normalmente riempiono prima i livelli energetici più bassi, proprio come tu sceglieresti il piano più basso se non ci fosse l'ascensore. Per esempio, il litio Z=3Z=3 ha la configurazione 1s²2s¹, mentre il potassio K,Z=19K, Z=19 arriva fino a 1s²2s²2p⁶3s²3p⁶4s¹.

Ma attenzione - la chimica ama le sorprese! Alcuni elementi come cromo e rame non seguono le regole standard. Questi "ribelli" preferiscono configurazioni che li rendono più stabili, anche se sembrano "sbagliate" a prima vista.
