仮定法の基本パターン
仮定法は現実とは違うことを想像して話すときに使うんだ。「もっと練習すれば上手くなるのに」みたいに、実際にはやってないことについて話すときだね。
仮定法過去は現在のことについて「もし〜だったら」と言うとき使う。If you practiced more, you would be a better playerみたいに、現在のことなのに過去形を使うのがポイント。これは「現実と違うことを言うから時制を1つ戻す」ルールがあるから。
仮定法過去完了は過去のことについて「あのとき〜していれば」と後悔するとき使う。If you had asked me, I would have helped youのように、had + 過去分詞とwould have + 過去分詞の組み合わせになる。
💡 覚えるコツ: 仮定法では「現実と反対だから時制を1つ戻す」と覚えよう！現在のことなら過去形、過去のことなら過去完了形。
特に注意したいのは、仮定法でbe動詞の過去形を使うときは、主語が何でも全部wereを使うこと。If I were youみたいにね。
wishを使った願望表現も仮定法の仲間。I wish I had a brotherは「弟がいればなあ」という現在の願望だから過去形、I wish I hadn't eaten so muchは「食べなければよかった」という過去への後悔だから過去完了形を使うよ。
